Holidaying in Philippines
Consisting of more than seven thousand islands and boasting one of the world's longest coastlines the Philippines is the perfect getaway for sun lovers and beach bums.
Many of these relatively unexplored islands are fringed by beautiful white sand beaches, the surrounding turquoise waters filled with some of the world's most colourful and diverse marine life.
Palawan and it's coastal town of El Nido is the ideal place from which to explore these warm, clear, balmy waters and see first hand their wondrous variety of inhabitants. Divers can swim amongst gorgeous, technicolour coral reefs and observe whale sharks, sea cows, manta rays, dolphins and turtles in this breathtaking natural environment.
Off of El Nido's coast lie towering, majestic karst formations, blue lagoons and atmospheric caves, all easily accessible and awaiting exploration.
The Philippines though are more than just a paradisiacal beach getaway.
Culture and history lovers will be enamoured with the UNESCO World Heritage listed site of Vigan. This small city is world-renowned for it's unique Spanish colonial architecture. The cobbled streets are adorned with elegant buildings which hark back to the city's Spanish influenced past, a great way to see these architectural gems and one that enriches the Spanish feel of the city is to take a ride on a calesa, a horse-drawn carriage.
Another of the Philippine's UNESCO World Heritage sites is Banaue. This small town is home to the 'Eighth wonder of the world', it's famous rice-terraces. These 2000 year-old wonders of the ancient world were carved out of the hillsides with primitive hand-held tools and are a simply breathtaking, wondrous sight.
If you prefer to splash the cash then you'll find the Philippines a consumer paradise. The three largest shopping malls in the world can be found here, it's fair comment to say that shopping is a national pastime in the Philippines.
If luxury designer labels are your thing, the Greenbelt malls in Manilla's Makati's Ayala Centre are where you'll find them at extremely attractive prices.
