DAY 5 Cape Wine Regions Touring

Today we tour to Cape Town’s most renowned wine regions of Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek - home to some of the world’s most magnificent wine estates. We visit historic wineries, enjoy comprehensive wine tastings in each of the three different wine regions, a cellar tour and cheese & chocolate wine pairing.

Stellenbosch is the historic heart of the South Africa’s wine regions, with the first vines established in the 1860’s, and is surrounded by vineyards, verdant valleys and rolling mountains. Experience a guided walking tour of this quaint historic town. Discover the elegant mix of 18-century Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian buildings as you head down Dorp Street, where huge Oaks still shadow original water furrows. Explore the township of Franschhoek, deep in the Cape Winelands near the Drakenstein Mountains. Established in 1688 by French immigrants who helped to develop wines that were greatly sought after by Napoleon, Bismarck and royalty. Many of these great wine estates still retain their original farmhouses. Enjoy plenty of time to explore Franschhoek (meaning “French corner”) with its French cafes, delis, wine shops and architecture. Discover the charming township of Paarl established by the Dutch and French in 1657 and overlooked by an imposing granite mountain that towers above. Stately oak trees line well-manicured streets and gardens along with many fine examples of Cape Dutch architecture. We also make a stop at the Nelson Mandela prison to see where Nelson Mandela served his last days of imprisonment. The region is well regarded for its Shiraz, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinotage, Viognier and Cabernet Sauvignon and is dominated by breathtaking mountains, where we experience a scenic drive over the Helshoogte mountain pass.

DAY 6 Safari Tour – Africa’s “Big 5”

Today come face-to-face with Africa’s most famous wildlife at a large game conservatory located between the Langeberg and the Outeniqua Mountains. Experience an incredible game-drive through this 100 square kilometre natural sanctuary to spot for roaming elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, giraffe, zebra, ostriches, leopards, wildebeest, springbok, baboons, jackal, buffalo and so much more.

With one of the world’s most active volcanos at its heart, the island is home to a dramatic patchwork of tumbling waterfalls, dense forest hosting rare birdlife and enchanting coral. Uninhabited until the 17th century, stunning Creole architecture adorns energetic coastal cities and attractive villages, including the picturesque port town of La Possession on the northwest coast.

La Possession is a very special port of call for a cruise journey – a unique opportunity for you to experience this little known - extremely remote island and make the most of every magical moment. Perhaps the perfect place to commence your day of exploration is the Circus of Salazie, the remains of an enormous volcanic caldera where you will find an explosion of life, where marvels of nature live side by side with small idyllic towns scattered throughout a lush forest. Feel the vibrancy of the beautiful city of Port Louis – perhaps meander through the colourful market to experience a journey of the senses, visit fascinating museums and historical and cultural sites, taste the flavours of Mauritian street-food and meet the friendly locals. Wander along the Caudan Waterfront lined with historic cannons and intriguing shops. Admire the spectacular Jummah Mosque at the entrance to the cultural and culinary treasures of Chinatown where you will find traditional medicine vendors, souvenir shops and an abundance of red lanterns within its gates. Be amazed by Place d'Armes - a beautiful avenue bordered with giant palm trees, facing the harbour and leading to the 18th century Government House.

Botany in all its glory is in abundance within the staggering splendour of the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, now almost three hundred years old; admire lovingly tended gardens with plant species from Asia, Africa and Oceania. Maybe spend a day on the other side of Mauritius, relaxing on the stunning stretches of fine sand and crystal clear waters of Ile aux Cerfs – the cliché of the tropical paradise island with its magnificent sandy beaches, turquoise waters and coconut trees… a succinct invitation to unwind. Admire the striking colours of the Seven Colored Earths; a rare geological oddity spreading out in seven distinct colors (red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple, and yellow), caused by a strange phenomenon in which the different sand particles seem to miraculously settle together and never erode.

Luxor’s setting is breathtakingly beautiful, with the awe-inspiring Nile flowing between the modern city and ancient west-bank. A fascinating land of vast desert scenery, captivating historical sites and pretty seaside resort towns, Jordan has been welcoming travellers for centuries. Dotted with Roman amphitheatres, Crusader castles and colourful Christian mosaics, the undisputed jewel in the crown of this quintessential Middle Eastern destination is the ancient Nabataean city of Petra, an incredible spectacle carved into the pink hued sandstone of a narrow desert valley back in 300 B. C.

Jordan’s exotic beachside town of Aqaba glories in an idyllic, sunny setting on the shores of the Red Sea, at the country’s southernmost tip. It has been an important trading port since 1500 BC and has some of the best diving and snorkelling in the world is centred on the unspoiled coral reefs that hug the coast.

Perhaps experience the ancient city of Petra - one of the most spectacular archaeological sites in the world - half-built, half-carved into rock and surrounded by mountains riddled with passages and gorges. Dating back to 300 BC, it’s located between the Dead Sea and Red Sea. Known as “Rose City” and due to the pink sandstone cliffs it was hidden for centuries until it was rediscovered in 1812.

DAY 28-29 Suez Canal (Transit)

Cruising Egypt’s celebrated triumph of engineering is an experience of a lifetime, the Suez Canal stretches some 163 kilometres to link the Mediterranean to the Red Sea and forms an integral part of the Silk Road that connects Europe with Asia. Admire the gorgeous canalside cities which speak to the former grandeur of Egypt’s belle époque era; their distinctive architecture rising up above the desert plains as canalside life unfolds at a peaceful pace.

For two days, admire the spectacular scenery while sailing along the sea-level waterway. To the west of the Suez Canal is the Nile Delta, awash in foliage, while to the east you’ll see the arid landscape of the Sinai Peninsula. DAY 32 Explore Naples, Amalfi Coast & Pompeii (Italy)

Our first Italian port-of-call is Naples, where the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, Pompeii and Capri awaits – it doesn’t get any more Italian.

Naples is authentic, high-octane energy, a place of soul-stirring art and unimaginable panoramas. This alluring city abounds in creativity, architecture, history, legends, shopping and glorious food. It’s a heady mix of modern vitality and a palpable 2nd millennium B.C. history that permeates every edgy alleyway with the dormant Mount Vesuvius volcano providing a picture-postcard backdrop. Explore the vibrant historical centre set around an incredible harbour bay, discover architectural landmarks, masterpiece artworks, and sumptuous food.

The Amalfi Coast dazzles with its iridescent coloured grottos where mountains plunge into the sea in a nail-biting vertical scene of precipitous crags. Seemingly endless picture-perfect turquoise seas and cinematic piazzas with pastel-coloured cascades of villages abound. The stunning coastal town of Sorrento is at the western gateway to the Amalfi. This truly romantic and handsome clifftop destination was a compulsory stop on the 19th-century 'Grand Tour'. Still today it’s renowned for it’s high-pedigree hotels amid plunging cliffs that cut through the heart of the historical core.

Pompeii is Europe's most compelling archaeological site. This ancient Roman city was buried under pumice and ash during the Mount Vesuvius volcanic eruption of 79 AD. Today, Pompeii looks frozen in time, offering glimpses of fossilised communities, preserved baths, crumbling columns and fabulous frescoes. Pompeii, set against the majestic (and now dormant) Mount Vesuvius, is the only archaeological site in the world that provides a complete picture of an ancient Roman city.

Capri is beautiful – seriously beautiful. You’ll find Capri’s glamorous culture with just short boat trip across the Bay of Naples. Steep cliffs rise majestically from an impossibly blue sea; elegant villas drip with wisteria and bougainvillea; even the trees seem to be carefully manicured.
