The city is alive, bridges over the pristine waterways buzz with cycling commuters, shopping is incredible and vibrant cafes and bars abound. Denmark’s capital city fuses modern city living with old world charm and is home to the world’s oldest monarchy. Copenhagen seamlessly integrates its rich Nordic history and culture with a modern, forward thinking way of life. From cobblestone streets, lined with colourful townhouses to the pristine waterfront precinct.

Copenhagen is a welcoming, compact city with a centre largely given over to pedestrians (and cyclists). There’s an emphasis on café culture and top-notch museums by day, and a vibrant live music and dining scene by night. Split by lakes and surrounded by sea, an energetic and hip waterside vibe permeates Copenhagen. The city effortlessly blends quaint and cool: one minute you’re in Indre By or Christianshavn, strolling along a cobbled street with roses and hollyhocks growing out of the pavement; the next, you’re discovering angular 21st-century architecture along the revitalised historic waterfront or mingling with the hipsters among the indie boutiques and bars of Vesterbro and Nørrebro.

DAY 11 Explore Gotland (Visby, Sweden)

The Swedish medieval walled town of Visby could straight out of Game of Thrones. It's one of the most picturesque, postcard-perfect towns in Scandinavia. Expect to be greeted by the preserved 13th-century walls, ancient turrets, towers and church spires; along with quaint rose-draped cottages. Add to this the town's leafy bowers, its serpentine cobblestone streets and cute shops, and you'll never want to leave. This heritage protected medieval town remains almost completely intact, catapulting you back to the ages of knights in shining armour.

Gotland is the largest Baltic Sea island and is the homeland of the legendary Goths. Renowned as one of the Sweden’s most beautiful destinations, its tranquil, sparsely populated landscapes are almost haunting in their beauty. Beyond it’s capital Visby, this remarkably beautiful island has diverse landscapes and archaeological finds attest to a human history stretching back 8000 years. There’s something very special about Gotland. It might be the light, the beaches and the ever present sea. Or it could be the cultural heritage, the history you can see and feel everywhere. Or the people: down-to-earth, hospitable folk who make the most of island life in sleepy little hamlets. Perhaps it’s the bustling street life in the walled city of Visby, or the scenery, the open and inviting landscape.

Wander the ancient cobble streets of Visby, or walk along the 3.5km long medieval walls. Settle in at one of the many cafés and eateries and soak up the medieval surroundings (a speciality in Gotland is saffranspannkaka, a delicious saffron pancake smothered with red berries and dollops of cream). Perhaps take a dip in Blue Lagoon, visit Lummelunda Cave or some of Gotlands´s most famous sea stacks at Langhammars, Stora Karlsö (world’s second oldest national park), Närsholmen peninsula, Eksta coast nature reserve, maybe wander the splendid Botanical Garden or explore one of the island’s 92 medieval churches. Gotland’s beaches are popular with visitors from Stockholm, check out alluring Sudersand beach.

Compact in size and picture perfect, Tallinn combines modern city amenities, a coastline with beautiful beaches and UNESCO listed heritage, within arm’s reach.

Stunning palaces, cathedrals and landmarks are at every turn that have an overwhelming sense of grandeur and opulence, from the Mariinsky Theatre, The State Hermitage Museum and State Russian Museum. In recent history, St Petersburg has undergone a transformation with the regeneration of the city centre, allowing a new contemporary side to emerge with upscale dining and boutiques. As the cultural hub of Russia, St Petersburg is world class destination for ballet, opera, 200 museums and an impressive 600 bridges.

We also spend two days in St. Petersburg, so you can fully appreciate the scale of sheer grandeur and history of Russia's imperial capital. The city of the Tsars never fails to impress with an almost unrivalled treasure trove of art and culture. Skagen is at the spectacular convergence of the Baltic and North seas. This picture-perfect seaside town flaunts it’s beautiful stretches of long sandy beaches, collection of art galleries, seafood restaurants, renowned ice creameries and 600 years of Danish history. Artists have flocked to the radiant light and rugged scenery of this holiday jewel since the mid 19th century; its neat, red tiled rows of distinctive yellow houses bewitching visitors to this day.

Experience the buzzing holiday vibe of Skagen (pronounced 'skain'). Here, museums and art galleries conspire with bike-rental outlets, ice-creameries and harbour-side restaurants to create a bewitching summertime atmosphere adored by countless Danes. Wander Skagen's intimate, older neighbourhoods, where distinctive yellow houses are framed by white-picket fences.
