After our delicious lunch, we return to Saigon, with free time to explore this fascinating city. DAY 11 Steung Trang to Siem Reap

This morning we bid a fond farewell to our beautiful rivership and the now familiar ebb and flow of the legendary Mekong River to take a splendid drive through the lush Cambodian countryside to Siem Reap - gateway to the mystical Angkor temples.

Siem Reap is a city steeped in both history and contemporary vivacity, offering a unique blend of ancient wonders and modern flair. Beyond the mystical temples of Angkor, Siem Reap discloses a bustling mosaic of markets, art galleries, and eclectic pubs and cafes. The vibrant night markets, aglow with a dazzling display of colourful neon lights, invite exploration and discovery, offering a taste of local crafts and enticing street food. The city’s quaint streets, lined with French colonial architecture, create an intimate setting where every corner reveals a story all its own – a captivating and colour filled destination that weaves its own irresistible narrative.

The surrounding Angkor Wat temple complex stands as an unparalleled testament to the grandeur of ancient Khmer civilization – a collection of over 70 temples, magically embedded within the lush grandeur of Cambodia’s ancient jungle. Their towering spires and intricate carvings quietly recounting the tales of an ancient time, where artistry and spirituality converged. The sun paints each temple in hues of gold, creating a magical atmosphere that brings the stone structures to life.

After lunch, we embark on a fascinating cultural journey, commencing with a visit to Wat Thmei Pagoda. This sacred site houses a poignant memorial stupa containing the remains of victims of the Khmer Rouge. Serving as a stark reminder of the tragic events during the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s, the pagoda also stands as an active monastery where Buddhist monks engage in religious ceremonies. Upon returning to the heart of Siem Reap, we immerse ourselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the Old Market, locally known as Pshar Chas. DAY 12 Explore Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom & Grand Circuit Temples

Today we delve into the ethereal wonder of the Angkor archaeological site. We commence our day with a journey to the ancient capital of the Khmer Empire - Angkor Thom - resonating with the grandeur of its monumental gateways. A compelling archaeological masterpiece that transports us back in time to the zenith of Khmer civilisation, we enter through the renowned South Gate (an impressive array of colossal human faces intricately carved in stone), visit the Bayon Temple (a unique marvel adorned with 54 towers embellished with over 200 smiling faces) and lose ourselves in the sacred ambiance of the Baphuon Temple (symbolising the holy Mount Meru, residence of the gods in Hindu tradition). Our fascinating pilgrimage through this historic city continues as we delve into the artistry of The Royal Enclosure, admire the grandeur of Phimeanakas, marvel at the intricate carvings along the Elephant Terrace and explore the mysterious sculptures on the Terrace of the Leper King. Today we revel in a soulful morning at the Kulen Elephant Forest before an intoxicating afternoon visit to the mesmerising floating villages of Tonle Sap.

We begin our day with a scenic drive to the Kulen Elephant Forest, a peaceful sanctuary nestled in the lush foothills of the Kulen Mountains, where Cambodia’s rescued elephants now live in freedom and dignity. Be transported to a world far removed from the noise of the city — a place where nature breathes deeply and gentle giants roam free. Upon arrival, you’ll receive a warm introduction to the forest and the mission of the sanctuary, before meeting the elephants themselves. Standing face-to-face with these majestic creatures, you’ll feel an overwhelming sense of awe and respect. We embark on a gentle two-kilometre trek through shaded woodland trails, walking alongside the elephants as they forage, meander and simply enjoy being elephants again.
