DAY 2 Darwin Town Tour

Today we embark on a fascinating guided tour of Darwin's rich culture and history. Your friendly local driver will pick you up in the comfortable air-conditioned coach before sharing experiences, fascinating facts and enchanting stories in the on-board full commentary. Enjoy the colourful sights of our unique city, take in the devastation of Cyclone Tracy, marvel at the majesty of Darwin Harbour, tour through the World War II Oil Storage Tunnels (engineering feat built to protect Darwin's oil supplies from the Japanese, now also houses a collection of Allied wartime photographs), see Sweetheart (famous 5.1m crocodile responsible for a series of attacks on boats) at the NT Museum and Art Gallery, and see Historical Palmerston Town, Parliament House, Military Museum, Darwin Waterfront, Darwin Botanic Gardens, Fannie Bay Gaol, the Qantas Hanger, the Darwin Aviation Museum and much more.

Located on a massive and spectacular harbour on the Timor Sea, Darwin’s population is a melting-pot of cultures from more than 50 countries, who pride themselves on their unique and friendly laid-back lifestyle. Darwin has year round balmy weather and is surrounded by the iconic Kakadu National Park and Litchfield National Park. There is plenty to see and do in the magnificent and vibrant Top End.

Spend the day exploring Darwin at your own pace before returning to your hotel for the evening.

Today you will be personally met at your hotel by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred to Darwin Wharf to begin your cruise. Board the ship at 8:00am and depart Darwin at 9:00am. DAY 5 King George River and Falls

Discover King George River, the first of the Kimberley’s “Big” rivers and gateway to the iconic King George Falls. A resplendent jewel in the Kimberley's crown, this magnificent dual waterfall is one of Australia’s tallest waterfalls, with a vertical drop of over 80 metres. Plunging from towering heights, this awe-inspiring spectacle commands reverence, igniting a profound sense of humility and wonder within those fortunate enough to witness its majestic power.

DAY 6 Vansittart Bay, Jar Island and Anjo Peninsula C53

Today, prepare to be captivated by the outstanding ancient rock art of the Kimberley. These sacred masterpieces bear witness to the rich fusion of Aboriginal culture, rituals and traditions. Immersed in the mystical aura of Jar Island, see the remarkable Gwion Gwion (Bradshaw) Aboriginal rock art galleries estimated to be up to 20,000 years old. These enigmatic rock art galleries unveil an ancient tapestry of vibrant colours and enigmatic symbols, igniting a profound sense of wonder and reverence for the timeless wisdom and cultural legacy of the land's traditional custodians.

On the Anjo Peninsula, we find the well-preserved wreckage of a US Airforce C-53 Skytrooper. In 1942, a pilot, lost while flying from Perth to Broome, made an emergency landing on a salt pan near what is now Truscott Airbase.

DAY 7 Wollaston Bay, Swift Bay or the Mitchell Falls

Today we have the opportunity to witness the spectacular beauty of the Mitchell Falls by helicopter as the falls cascade down the Mitchell Plateau in a breathtaking display – a truly iconic emblem of the Kimberley. Emerald green rock pools and gushing waterfalls contrast against the rugged escarpment creating a mesmerising sight, while ancient rock art galleries await - hidden behind curtains of water. Immerse yourself in the enchantment of Mitchell River National Park, where an abundance of wildlife thrives in this oasis of water that sustains life year-round. Marvel at the sandstone terraces that overlook the tiered rock pools, providing a perfect vantage point to soak in the serenity of this ancient landscape. The park is teeming with a diverse range of mammals, amphibians, reptiles and bird species, drawn by the allure of this natural sanctuary.

Alternatively, explore the sandstone caves of Wollaston Bay or Wollaston Creek - a mass of weathered tunnels, arches and columns forming a labyrinth-like maze - once an Aboriginal midden. DAY 9 Prince Regent River, King Cascades and Careening Bay

Today, discover the enchanting beauty of the King Cascades, a Kimberley gem that defies description. As its waters cascade down the terraced expanse of Kimberley sandstone, a vivid tapestry of ochre-hued and blackened rock comes to life. Lush grasses, mosses, and ferns create a magnificent hanging garden - breathing life into the rocky canvas. We journey along the steep-sided Prince Regent River - a remarkable anomaly that runs dead straight along a fault line. As we cruise in our Xplorer tender vessels, we are immersed in the untamed beauty of this remote wilderness, its towering cliffs reflected back atop its calm waters.

Nearby, Careening Bay holds a special piece of history. Here, Lt. Phillip Parker King sought refuge for his vessel, the HMC Mermaid. Stranded for 17 days, the ship's carpenter etched "HMC Mermaid 1820" into the bottle-shaped trunk of a boab tree near the beach. Two centuries later, the iconic Mermaid Boab Tree is now listed on the National Register of Big Trees and retains the carpenter's inscription.

DAY 10 Montgomery Reef

Today we discover Doubtful Bay, Steep Island and Ruby Falls. We follow the gentle flow of Red Cone Creek as it leads to enchanting Ruby Falls. Disembark today in Broome at 08:00am and spend the day exploring the town. Broome is the western gateway to the spectacular Kimberley region. This historic pearling town sits on the western edge of the vast and remote Kimberley region and is the largest town in Australia's ruggedly beautiful northwest. Broome exudes a laid-back ambience and is home to several historic buildings including The Sun Picture Theatre which is the world's oldest operational open-air theatre.
